California flu death toll rising even as season wanes

California has already experienced three times the number of flu deaths (318) so far this year compared to last year’s overall total (106), and that figure represents only those under the age of 65. Still, the number of deaths due to influenza has continued to rise despite flu season winding down. 26 more cases are currently being investigated, which could push the flu death toll even higher. Public health officials are warning people to get vaccinated if they have not already, as flu season may resurge even after leveling off.
